Empty Bowls fundraiser aims to raise $50K to alleviate food insecurity in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Friedens Food Pantries just announced its Empty Bowls event will be held in Milwaukee this year.

Organizers say the goal is to raise $50,000 in just one day to help fight food insecurity in Milwaukee.

Guests can buy handmade bowls and soups made by local artisans and chefs, with all proceeds going directly to four food pantries.

“Friedens is thrilled by the opportunity to host this meaningful event,” said Sophia Torrijos, executive director, Friedens Food Pantries. "We invite the greater Milwaukee community to join us in making a difference for families who are food insecure. If we reach our goal of raising $50,000, we can help alleviate hunger for more than 10,000 of our neighbors.”

Pre-sale tickets go on sale Aug. 1. The event runs from noon until 3 p.m. at the beer garden in the Deer District on Oct. 9.
