MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Emergency crews responded to a fatal crash on the city's north side Wednesday, Oct. 4.
It happened near the intersection of Locust and Richards, where police say the 34-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment of serious, but non-fatal injuries.
Police say the passenger, a 40-year-old, died. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 40-year-old Julie Collins of Milwaukee.
CBS 58 spoke to a person who saw people running toward the accident. He and another bystander helped pull the driver out of the car.
"I just got to talking to her, because I knew that's what you're supposed to do, you know, keep talking to her. I was letting her know, keep breathing, I see your hand moving, you're okay, ambulance is coming," said Lance Bond.
Milwaukee police say the driver was arrested. Authorities say speed is believed to be a factor.
