Driver killed after being struck by suspect fleeing police in stolen vehicle

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Police say a 39-year-old man has died following a crash near 27th and Lincoln Tuesday, April 4. 

It happened around 12:26 a.m. after Milwaukee police officers attempted to make a traffic stop on S. 27th Street and W. Forest Home Avenue. 

Authorities say the driver refused and fled from the scene. Officers did not initiate a pursuit, but the suspect vehicle crashed near 27th and Lincoln. 

The driver of the suspect vehicle, a 28-year-old Milwaukee man, was arrested after a brief foot pursuit and taken to an area hospital with non-fatal injuries. 

The driver of the other vehicle, a 39-year-old Milwaukee man, was taken to an area hospital where he later died of his injuries. 

Police say the suspect vehicle was determined to be stolen. 

Criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office in the coming days.
