MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Department of Public Works (DPW) started salting roads city wide at 5 a.m. this morning.

They are expected to salt into the night, but DPW wanted to give some tips to stay safe during the snowy weather.

  • Give salt and plow trucks plenty of room on the road
  • If you are parking on a city street, make sure to follow winter parking rules
  • DPW recommends shoveling your sidewalks within 24 hours after snow stops falling
  • Don't forget to clear ice and snow from your fire hydrant, garage and recycling cans
