Downtown hit-and-run suspect who filed false insurance claim had 7 drinks before driving
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- New details have come to light in a downtown hit-and-run that put a 26-year-old man in a coma.
In court, a Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) officer testified that surveillance video from a restaurant where Jenni Fischer works shows the 24-year-old having six glasses of wine and a mixed drink after her shift over the course of four hours.
In court, investigators testified that multiple surveillance videos of the crash in December first showed Fischer’s car speeding without headlights near Knapp and Van Buren when she hit 26-year-old Abood Zanoun.
One day later, investigators say Fischer filed a false police report. Two days after the crash, she filed a false insurance claim stating her car had been damaged while she was at work.
Milwaukee police say security video outside Fischer’s home on the night of the crash show her struggling to walk.
“As she’s walking up the staircase, she’s swaying from side to side, from one side of the staircase to the other. She walked slowly towards the door that’s locked. When she goes to retrieve her keys, from her pocket to unlock that door, she drops them,” said MPD Officer Richard Schnier.
The victim, Zanoun, is still in a coma.
In court Wednesday, an MPD officer testified that doctors have been unable to wake up Zanoun and he has little brain activity.
Fischer was bound for trial and will be back in court next month.
