Door County's Maritime Museum to expand with 10-story lighthouse addition

STURGEON BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An enormous expansion is taking place in Door County at Sturgeon Bay's Maritime Museum.

The museum is marking its 50-year anniversary with a 10-story lighthouse decked out with exhibits.

The expansion will have an impact on the entire museum, with exhibits like shipwrecks of Door County being re-purposed for the new structure.

Other new displays will also move into spots in the current museum.

"It will tell in greater depth and detail, the story of Door County, the Great Lakes and the maritime history that is really all of our shared and collective maritime history," said Sam Perlman, deputy director of the Door County Maritime Museum.

The addition will nearly double the museum's space.
