Donations needed: Wisconsin Humane Society food pantry struggling with empty shelves
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Another organization is hoping for community support. The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) has a pet food panty at its Milwaukee location, 4500 W Wisconsin Avenue, but the shelves are completely bare right now.
"There's so much need right now and that need is outpacing the donations we're receiving," said Rachel Hahn, director of animal and client services for WHS Milwaukee.
The Furry Friends Food Pantry relies completely on community donations.
Shelter officials tell CBS 58, people come in every day looking for pet food.
They say, more and more often, people are having to choose between food for them or food for their pets.
The shelter has a goal of keeping pets in their homes and preventing anything that could lead to a pet ending up in their shelter.
WHS says donations are vital.
"That's truly the impact that folks can make by donating is helping keep an animal who maybe otherwise wouldn't be able to stay in their home, in their home with their person" said Hahn.
There are a couple of ways you can donate -- either bring in donations right to the campus and put them into the pantry, or you can go to the humane society's website HERE.
