DOJ: 1 dead after officer-involved gunfire exchange in Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating an officer involved gunfire exchange in Green Bay.

It happened on Friday, Feb. 23. The Green Bay Police Department responded to a weapons violation call. 

A Green Bay officer located a vehicle that was believed to be involved near Green Ridge and Open Gate Trail. 

The subject fired their weapon, and they exchanged gunfire with the officer, according to the DOJ. 

The injured subject was transported to a hospital and later succumbed to their injuries.

No law enforcement officers were injured. 

A firearm was recovered from the scene. 

The officer from the Green Bay Police Department has been placed on administrative leave, per department policy. 

The Department of Criminal Investigation is being assisted by several agencies as the investigation continues.
