Dogs alert family to house fire on Milwaukee's north side

There were no injuries in an early morning house fire in Milwaukee, all thanks to the family's dogs.  There were no working smoke detectors in the home at 48th and Fairmount on Milwaukee's north side.  The two adults in the home were instead woken by their dogs.

Milwaukee Fire Department investigators say the fire started in the kitchen, and by the time they arrived around 4:30 a.m. Friday, it had spread to the back bedroom area.  Firefighters were able to get it under control quickly.

The cause remains under investigation.
