DHS program aims to prolong independent living for Wisconsin residents

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is initiating an Independent Living Supports Pilot program, aimed at providing resources to eligible residents, enabling them to live independently at home.

The program is designed to offer short-term services and support to older adults and individuals with disabilities.

DHS Secretary-designee Kirsten Johnson stated in a Thursday, June 22 press release, "We’ve designed the Independent Living Supports Pilot program to offer short-term, flexible services and supports for older adults and people with disabilities. Helping people access services sooner can help maintain their health and living situation for a longer period of time, which not only improves health outcomes, but is also cost effective."

To be eligible for the program, participants must be Wisconsin residents over the age of 18, not enrolled in Medicaid long-term care programs, have at least one eligible functional need, and earn less than 300% of the federal poverty level.

The program, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act, will be available in select areas of the state for up to 12 months, including Milwaukee County, Dodge County, Kenosha County, Washington County and more.
