Desperate Search for Red Panda Missing From Virginia Zoo

(CBS News) NORFOLK, Va. -- A frantic search at the Virginia zoo for a red panda last seen when the zoo was closing on Monday, reports CBS Norfolk affiliate WTKR-TV.

Zookeepers weren’t able to find her when they checked on the red panda habitat Tuesday morning.

They hope she’s somewhere inside the zoo -- but they’re warning neighbors to avoid Sunny, if they encounter her.

Neighbors told WTKR they’re heeding that advice. “The panda’s probably scared himself, this is new to him, so we don’t know how he’ll react,” said Lazara Jorrin.

Norfolk police are helping with the search for Sunny, using a thermal camera.
