Defense: Plea Deal Being Discussed in Minnesota Threats Case

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minnesota man accused of threatening to kill a federal judge and FBI agents might instead plead guilty to a misdemeanor.

Twenty-year-old Khaalid Adam Abdulkadir was scheduled to stand trial Tuesday on three counts, including one charge of threatening to murder a federal judge. But a hearing Monday was put on hold while Abdulkadir and his parents met with attorneys behind closed doors.

Defense attorney Chris Madel says after some new evidence, he anticipates his client will plead guilty Tuesday to a misdemeanor. Madel says he anticipates his client will be released from custody and sentenced to home detention.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office declined to comment.

Prosecutors say Abdulkadir made the threats over Twitter in December after his friend was arrested on terrorism charges.
