MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Deer District is about to become the "Cheer District."
The City of Milwaukee's Christmas tree has arrived.
The 38-foot Colorado Spruce was harvested by the Department of Public Works Wednesday morning from Denise Blue's yard.
She says her nephew prompted her to donate a tree because their family loves Christmas. City officials say it's what the holiday spirit is all about.
"This tree, from this family, is going to bring the entire city of Milwaukee, the entire community together," said Mayor Cavalier Johnson. "That's what's so important about this, and that's why we want to continue doing this year after year."
Mayor Johnson says only New York City's Christmas tree program has been running longer than Milwaukee's.
This year will mark 110 years of this holiday tradition. Now it's up to DPW to decorate the tree ahead of the lighting ceremony on Nov. 17.
