Decision in Red Arrow Park case could be another month away

MILWAUKEE- According to the attorney for the family of Dontre Hamilton, District attorney John Chisholm wants an outside independent investigation into the use of force by the officer who shot Hamilton 14 times, after Hamilton allegedly grabbed the officer's baton and attacked him with it.

The incident happened back on April 30, 2014.

Attorney Jon Safran said that the District Attorney has indicated that he has located and identified the agency that would do the investigation, but added that it would take another month.

Safran said that time line is far too long for the Hamilton family and that they thought this kind of investigation was already done.

Chisholm has been requested by the family to make this process go as quickly as he can.

Safran said the family was led to believe there would be a charging decision by the District Attorney on Tuesday.

There are a number of criminal charges that Safran said Chisholm can evaluate for this case.

Safran said that the District Attorney is concerned about the number of shots fired and the use of the baton.
