MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Mother's Day arrived early for some Milwaukee moms.

The Daisie Foundation, a group dedicated to serving women and children in underserved communities, set out to surprise 200 mothers working in healthcare on Monday, May 2.

"You guys are doing amazing work at Progressive, and we just wanted to honor you guys," Daisie Foundation Executive Board President Julie Hightower said. "This is Mother's Day week, so Happy Mother's Day to you guys."

Mothers, like Amy Shay, walked away with lunch from Ian's Pizza, a custom bag from Shiraleah, Milwaukee Brewers tickets, and the foundation's signature touch -- a daisy.

"It's really special to be recognized. I have three children of my own, little kids. So, it's a lot of work," Shay, a dental director at Lisbon Avenue Health Center, said.

The thoughtfulness touched the hearts of moms who worked to keep people safe from COVID-19 over the past two years.

"It's been a time to count our blessings, and so, this is just really nice to be recognized," Madelaine Tully, a family physician at Lisbon Avenue Health Center, said.

Even as the pandemic slows, these healthcare workers say they're still catching their breath.

"Fatigue is there. We're short staffed in a lot of places, and so, I think to be able to have this surprise and share it with everyone is perfect timing," Progressive Community Health Centers Senior Director of Fun Development and Marketing Sarah Francois said.

This Mother's Day, the Daisie Foundation wants them all to know their effort both at home and at work is much appreciated.
