Cuts to federal food stamps program begins Nov. 1st

MILWAUKEE -- Food stamp recipients will see their benefits shrink starting today. A federal increase that was implemented as part of stimulus during the recession expired November 1, 2013.

The decrease translates to about $29 less per month in benefits for a family of three. This change affects more than 40 million Americans, and 800,000 people in Wisconsin. This has food banks gearing up for a busy holiday season.

On November 27th, CBS 58 will be teaming up with the Hunger Task Force and the Brewers Community Foundation to help feed the hungry here in Milwaukee. Stop by and donate non-perishable food items at Miller Park. We'll be there taking donations as early as 4:30 a.m.
