SHOREWOOD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Friday, Oct. 15 is National Cheese Curd Day in Wisconsin, not that Wisconsinites needed an excuse to eat a burger topped with one massive cheese curd.
People lined up outside the door and filled the drive-thru at the Shorewood Culver's on Capitol.
"I think it's going to be good," said one customer, who couldn't even finish his sentence before the doors were unlocked and he had to go. "I think that's them letting me in, so I'm going to go do my thing."
The doors opened at 10 a.m., but many people arrived around 9:30 a.m. They all wanted to get their hands on the burger that's available for one day only.
And after biting in, cheese spilled out of the burger and it was as good as customers imagined.
"Totally different, totally delicious experience," said James, one customer who was second in line.
The Curderburger was Culver's Deluxe Butterburger topped with a large cheese curd patty.
It started as an April Fools' Day joke, but after thousands of people signed a petition last April to bring it to the menu, it's finally here.
"They finally made it a reality. I know it's 10:30 in the morning, but we're getting it," said Thomas Sams.
And Sams said it was worth the wait.
"Wow, that is so good. That is so good. It's amazing," said Sams.
People had just one request: make the Curderburger a menu staple.
