MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A record number of people were killed in Milwaukee in 2022. Among them was a Milwaukee rapper, and police need your help to find his killer.

"Right now, more than ever, we do need citizens' help because our caseload has grown and the amount of help we need from the community has increased," said Milwaukee Police Department Detective Rosemarie Galindo.

Michael Jones -- also known as "414 Lil Moe" -- was 26 years old, and one of his songs was called "Grateful." But Jones never got to find out just how good his life could be because someone shot him while he was sitting alone in his car.

Milwaukee police say on Feb. 8, he was sitting in his black Cadillac SUV on 28th and Melvina. A little after 9:30 p.m., two suspects ran up to his car, fired shots inside and ran away.

Investigators are trying to figure out why Jones was in the area, because he didn't live there. Police say drugs aren't involved, and it doesn't look like Jones provoked the attack. Officials have no idea why this happened.

"We do have family members and citizens that have tried to come forward with some information they heard on the street. What's important about that is that it’s a good first step in trying to determine what happened, but we need those people with firsthand information to come forward. It's good for people to give any information that they have, but in this case particularly if you're the person who has firsthand knowledge of what happened to Mr. Jones and why those are the people we need to come forward," said Detective Galindo.

If you know anything about who killed Michael Jones, call Milwaukee Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS(8477). You can also use the P3 Tips App. Your call is always anonymous and if your tip leads to an arrest, you get a cash reward.
