Firefighters save family pet from house fire in Brookfield

BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Crews responded to a house fire in a single-family home Friday afternoon, according to the Brookfield Fire Department.

It happened near Wynfield Lane and Tennyson Drive around 1:20 p.m.

First responders reported heavy fire conditions from the roof into the second floor of the two-story home. Crews were able to bring the fire under control in a little over an hour.

According to an incident report, no one was inside the home at the time of the fire, but a relative of the homeowner attempted to rescue a family pet prior to the fire department's arrival.

Firefighters say they were able to locate and safely remove the pet.

Officials say one firefighter was treated and released at the scene for heat-related injuries.

The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The fire department says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
