MILWAUKEE COUNTY (CBS 58) -- The Common Council's "ante room" was named for the late Vel Phillips.
She was the first African-American and the first woman to serve on the council. That was just a small part of her legacy as a fighter for civil rights and women's equality.
Phillips died in April.
A few weeks ago, a stretch of N. 4th Street was renamed in her honor. Now, a room at City Hall.
Alderwoman Milele Coggs suggested on Tuesday that there may be more tributes coming.
