Couch falls off truck on I-43

MILWAUKEE -- A pickup truck transporting a couch caused a serious crash after the couch fell off the truck onto southbound I-43 near the Marquette Interchange.

After losing the couch, the driver got out his truck and tried to retrieve the couch. Another driver hit the stopped truck, sustained serious injuries. Both vehicles have been totaled.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office warns driving with items on top of a vehicle or in the open cab may be safe on city streets, but are susceptible to falling off at freeway speeds. 

The sheriff's office says drivers should not get out of their vehicle after an item falls. Drivers should pull over and call 911.
