Construction to begin this month near Highland Rd on I-43 north-south corridor

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --  Wisconsin's Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will begin construction on 1-43 NB/SB near Highland Rd. on Feb. 21, 2022.

Work near the County Line Road/Port Washington Road interchange is also anticipated to begin in late February.

Governor Evers approved $550 million in 2019 to repair and update the 14-mile stretch of 1-43 between Glendale and Grafton. The full project is expected to be complete by 2025.

This year, WisDOT will expand I-43 to three lanes in each direction between Silver Spring Drive and WIS 60, modernize six interchanges along the corridor, and widen a segment of Port Washington Road in Glendale between Bender Road and Daphne Lane.

You can see the full project here.

I-43 will remain open to two lanes in each direction during peak travel times, but the project requires various closures of adjacent bridges, ramps, and roadways to help facilitate construction.
