Community at Vigil Encouraging Peaceful Protests

A vigil was held on Sunday night on Milwaukee’s Northeast side.

Some people CBS 58 spoke with Sunday night at the vigil said no matter the circumstances that led up to the shooting, the violence last night is not the answer.

Hundreds of people in the community came out to remember Syville Smith.

Community leaders and pastors said being peaceful is the answer to the frustration.

Several people didn't know Smith, but came out to take a stand against what happened and to support the family.

They said they're not surprised by the unrest last night and that Milwaukee has been hurting for a while, especially in Sherman Park.

The community is encouraging peaceful protests tonight and the days to come.
