MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Common Council's Public Safety and Health Committee voted to approve two nominees for Milwaukee's Fire and Police Commission.

The nominees will now move to the full council for the approval that is needed for them to get the jobs.

Leon Todd has been nominated to be the next executive director of the Fire and Police Commission.

Todd has served as an Assistant State Public Defender for the Office of the State Public Defender Appellate Division since 2014.

The committee voted unanimously to move him to the full council.

Committee members voted 3-2 to move Amanda Avalos forward.

Avalos has been nominated to be a commissioner. There are six commissioners currently. In being the seventh, she could be the tie-breaking vote for the next police chief. The Fire and Police Commission vote for chief has ended in a tie two weeks in a row.

Avalos is currently the Senior Civic Engagement Director for Leaders Igniting Transformation.

The committee also heard from Commissioner Ann Wilson Monday, Dec. 14. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has nominated Wilson to be reappointed to the FPC. The committee voted to move the rest of her testimony to closed session at a later date, after some had questions about litigation, including the demotion of former Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales.
