MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- For the first time in a number of years, the skies were blue and sunny for the annual "Family Kite Festival" at Veterans Park in Milwaukee.
More than 600 kites took to the sky during the "grand launch" at noon today, May 24.
The free event includes performances from regional kit teams as far away as British Columbia showing off their moves and you can join them with a kite of your own.
Scott Fisher has been putting on the event for 38 years now.
He says the festival and today's weather makes for a relaxing weekend.
"I think it's something that's calming," said Fisher. "You can go out on a nice spring, summer day, you can sit in the grass, put your kite up in the air and just watch it."
If you missed today's extravaganza - don't worry.
The fun continues tomorrow, May 25, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
If you're looking for a kite, you can find one at Veterans Park. Fisher sells them himself at his "Gift of Wings" shop.
