Cedarburg residents voice disapproval over proposed plan to build private pond

CBS 58

CEDARBURG, Wis. (CBS 58) -- People in the town of Cedarburg braved the cold to voice their opposition to a plan, that's still up in the air at the Common Council.

A family wants to divert a massive amount of water from Cedar Creek and the town's aquifers to build a private pond.

Some in the town have environmental, noise and flooding concerns.

They also think it could set a problematic new standard.

"If it can happen here if can happen anywhere in the state of Wisconsin," said Kevin Cahill of Save Cedar Creek. "You could wake up tomorrow with a ski lake in your backyard, and you can see your river, creek or lake drained in the same way under state law."

If or when this plan moves ahead will be up to the Common Council.

It also has to be approved by the Department of Natural Resources and the Army Corps of Engineers.
