WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin State Fair kicked off Thursday, July 31 and many folks were out right away to take advantage of the food and fun. Reporter Jenna Wells took in all the sights, sounds, food and fun at the fair for this week's CBS 58 Hometowns LIVE.

The opening ceremonies for the State Fair began at 10:15 a.m., with local and state leaders giving their thanks and love to start the 11 days of fun.

Kids from Wisconsin Singers performed the national anthem, and a real bald eagle from the Schlitz Audobon Society.

For 174 years, the Wisconsin State Fair has been a celebration of community and agriculture.

"Please go eat all the things. None of the calories count. Make sure you ride all the rides, scream while you're doing it, and have fun, and make wonderful memories for years to come," said Shari Black, Wisconsin State Fair CEO.

"What's good for the State Fair is good for Milwaukee County," said Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley. "And what's good for Milwaukee County is absolutely good for the state of Wisconsin."
