CBS 58 Friday Night Rivals: Week 1 Recap

SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- A new season of high school football is beginning and CBS 58 is kicking off its Friday Night Rivals coverage.

WEEK 1 RECAP

Wisconsin’s high school football season is underway! CBS 58’s Friday Night Rivals featured four of the area’s top matchups, including Darius Crawley-Reid’s six touchdown performance for Martin Luther in the Game of the Week. Here are the highlights from our other featured matchups:

Brookfield Central 58, Wauwatosa East 6

The Brookfield Central Lancers (1-0), last year’s Division 2 state runner-up, start 2018 with an impressive showing at Hart Park. Rashad Lampkin found the end zone for Brookfield Central’s first score, but then Drew Leszczynski connected with Cam Devine and Julian Banda on touchdown tosses.

New Berlin Eisenhower 29, Plymouth 14

Jack Himmelspach rushed for 80 yards and three touchdowns to lead Eisenhower (1-0) to a season opening triumph at homer. Eisenhower, last year’s state runner-up in Division 3, completed just one pass all night, but a stifling Lions defense picked off Plymouth’s Cole Booth five times, including a pick-six from Mark Shields.

Lake Country Lutheran 53, Mineral Point 17

Lake Country Lutheran (1-0) crosses the 50-point barrier after scoring at least 40 points in eight games last season. Dane Vance’s 30 yard touchdown run early in the game helped set the tone. The Lightning were state runners-up last year, losing 28-21 to Amherst at Camp Randall Stadium

OTHER GAMES:

Kettle Moraine 34, Waukesha West 23

Kettle Moraine avenges last year’s 21-20 season opening loss to the Wolverines (0-1). Waukesha West went on to the state semifinals in 2017, while Kettle Moraine lost to Sun Prairie in the second round of the playoffs in 2017.

Fond Du Lac 31, Kimberly 28

Jared Scheberl kicked a 26-yard field goal with no time remaining, ending Kimberly’s 70-game winning streak, the longest such streak in the nation.
