Carolton Elementary School Attends Banding of Falcons

WE Energies employees in Oak Creek welcomed some special visitors to an event for some special guests.

Students from Carolton Elementary School took a special field trip to the Oak Creek power plant to see the banding of several peregrine falcon chicks and give them names.

The birds were once classified as endangered, but have rebounded and that status was removed in 1999.

WE Energies began its peregrine falcon recovery efforts in the early 1990s.

So far, more than 200 falcons have hatched at WE Energies nesting boxes.

"We had a unit in science about the planets in space and we were thinking about names and we decided to give them moon names,” Norah McDaniel, 5th grader said.
