Bucks player faces past controversy with dialogue at Jewish Community Center

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Bucks center Meyers Leonard is scheduled for a visit to the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center for a discussion named "Words Matter."

This event, focused on the influence of hate speech, is due to take place on Wednesday, June 14 at 7 p.m. in the JCC's Daniel M. Soref Community Hall. The event is open to all.

The visit marks Leonard's inaugural trip to the JCC since his relocation to Milwaukee earlier in February this year.

Leonard, a focal point in the national conversation in 2021 due to an incident involving an anti-Semitic slur during a video game livestream, has since embarked on a journey of education and reformation regarding anti-Semitic behavior, according to Mark Shapiro, president and CEO of the Harry and Rose Samson Family JCC.

"We welcome Meyers and believe the discussion – while painful – is necessary to foster better understanding and create a more inclusive and tolerant community."
