Bucks' Brook Lopez to buy books for every student at 3 MPS schools

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Bucks center Brook Lopez is making a big investment in local youth in honor of Read Across America Day Wednesday, March 2.

He's providing nearly $70,000 in donated books and funds to three Milwaukee Public Schools and Next Door Foundation, according to the Bucks.

Lopez will provide funds allowing each student at Cass Street Elementary School, Seifert Elementary School and Burbank Elementary School to choose five books from their school's Scholastic Book Fair over the next two weeks.

The Bucks say this initiative is expected to provide nearly 6,000 books to more than 1,100 students across the three schools, totaling approximately $43,000.

Lopez will also donate $25,000 to the Next Door Foundation to go toward their library.

This is the third year Lopez has supported the foundation, with funds previously coming from his Blocks for Books campaign.
