NEW YORK (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Bucks center Brook Lopez has been named as the Bob Lanier Community Assist Award winner by the National Basketball Association for the 2022-23 season.

He will be acknowledged for his achievement during the ESPN’s NBA Today broadcast at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28.

The award, recognized in a Tuesday press release, celebrates Lopez's sustained commitment to youth literacy in Milwaukee. In addition to the award, the NBA will donate $25,000 to the Milwaukee Public Library Foundation in recognition of Lopez's efforts.

The NBA noted that Lopez was selected by an NBA executive panel and fan votes, also saying that since 2018, Lopez has been instrumental in promoting reading among the youth through donations and literacy initiatives. This past season, his β€œBlocks for Books” program saw Lopez donate $500 to Next Door for every block he recorded, totaling $96,500.

Additionally, Lopez collaborated with Scholastic Book Fair to bring book fairs to five Milwaukee Public Schools.

Lopez has been the subject of NBA free agency rumors throughout this offseason, so stay with CBS 58 Hometown Sports for updates.
