Bronzeville Week: Milwaukee leaders offer preview of 8-day celebration kicking off Aug. 1

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- This Saturday, Aug. 1, marks the start of Bronzeville Week, and Milwaukee leaders held a press conference Thursday previewing the event.

Inspired by Milwaukee's original Bronzeville District, it's an eight-day celebration of African American art, culture and commerce. 

A few festivities on this year's schedule include a fashion show, historical trolley rides, and a 5-K run or walk in the Harambee neighborhood. 

Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs spoke about how this tradition helps preserve the rich history of the Bronzeville District. 

"We have to not just fight against what we don't want in Bronzeville, we have to highlight the great things that are here and also show what's possible," Ald. Coggs said. "Now we have Bronzeville Week, which is eight days full of art, culture and commerce."
