Brewers Win Thriller

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Jonathan Villar's single drove in Kurt Nieuwenhuis from second base with two outs in the ninth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers got past the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 on Friday night.

Villar's hit, off Seung Hwan Oh, got past a diving Greg Garcia, the Cardinals third baseman. Left fielder Tommy Pham's throw to the plate was on line and Yadier Molina slapped a quick tag on Nieuwenhuis as he slid. The home plate umpire ruled Nieuwenhuis safe, leading to an immediate argument from Molina.

The call was confirmed after a brief review.

Chris Carter gave Milwaukee an early lead with a towering home run leading off the second off St. Louis starter Michael Wacha.

The Cardinals took the lead in the third on consecutive run-scoring singles by Aledmys Diaz and Matt Holliday.
