Brewers pitcher apologizes after hitting Marlins player in the face

MILWAUKEE -- There's new information on Miami Marlins star player Giancarlo Stanton, who was hit in the face by Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Mike Fiers during a home game September 11.

Stanton was taken off of the field on a stretcher after being hit in the 5th inning of the game. X-rays show Stanton suffered multiple face fractures, dental damage, and also needed stitches.

Marlins manager Mike Redmond says it's unlikely Stanton will play again this season.

Fiers was visibly shaken on and off the field.

\"I'm sorry to their teammates and their fans, his family,\" Fiers said after the game. \"It's just tough.\"

Fiers hit the next batter on the hand as well, which led to both benches emptying and Redmond being ejected.

Fiers says the pitches were not intentional, and tweeted an apology and well wishes to Stanton.
