Brett Favre jersey retirement ceremony unlikely this season at Lambeau

GREEN BAY-Brett Favre's retirement from the Packers became complicated after he changed his mind and wound up playing with the Jets and then the Vikings before calling it quits again.

And while reports recently indicated that Favre had been in positive talks with Packers management recently, President Mark Murphy indicated Thursday that a retirement ceremony this season is unlikely.

The acknowledgment came during some questioning by media after Murphy spoke revenue and contracts.

\"No, I don't anticipate having him retire a number during the season in a game this year.,\" Murphy explained. \"We have very good relations and have had very good communication, but I don't anticipate that this year.\"

Murphy has made it clear he wants Favre's jersey to be retired by 2016, before the quarterback goes into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Only 5 players in Packers history have had their numbers retired; Tony Canadeo, Don Hutson, Bart Starr, Ray Nitchke and Reggie White.
