ONEIDA RESERVATION, Wis. (CBS 58) – Authorities in Ashwaubenon say a gunman shot seven people and killed two Saturday, May 1 at the Oneida Casino.
The shooting suspect was shot and killed by police.
Brown County Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Pawlak said investigators believe the gunman was targeting a specific person he was angry at, but the person wasn’t at the Oneida Casino at the time.
Pawlak said it appears the gunman “decided to still shoot some of the victim’s friends or co-workers.”
Patrons fled the casino after gunshots broke out around 7:30 p.m. A witness said he saw two people get shot and described a gunman as “shooting pretty aggressively.”
Oneida Nation said the incident occurred at the Duck Creek Bar and Grill located inside the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center.
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers responded to the incident Saturday night.
“Kathy and I were devastated to hear about the shooting at the Oneida Casino complex tonight. Our hearts, thoughts, and support go out to the Oneida Nation, the Ashwaubenon and Green Bay communities, and all those affected by this tragedy," he said. "While we are waiting for more information, we hope and pray those who were injured will recover and are grateful for the first responders who quickly responded to the situation.”
The Brown County Sheriff's Office will hold a press conference on Monday, May 3.
