Brave souls rappel Miller Park wall for Special Olympics

MILWAUKEE -- Safely on the ground again, Kristi Nugent took a huge sigh of relief Saturday.

\"I was terrified, but I feel great,\" Nugent said.

The Kohl's Department Store employee's adventure started more than 100 feet above the pavement  outside Miller Park.

\"Leaning back and letting go,\" Nugent said.  \"You have to sit down and drop down the wall and for me, it  was, 'Don't look down.'\"

More than 60 other people followed Nugent, rappelling the third base line wall to benefit Special Olympics of  Wisconsin.

\"It's great, the first step's a little rough, but once you get going, it's smooth sailing all the way down,\" fellow rappeller Kathy Stahowiak said.

Participants each raised at least $1,000 using social media and word of mouth to get  donations.

\"They're paying us to do this crazy event,\" Regional Development Director Kelly Lang said.

Lang says Special Olympics has been holding the fundraiser for the past five  years.  This year's was the first time at Miller Park, using office buildings and hotels in downtown Milwaukee in the past.

\"It's something different, it's not just your typical fundraising event,\" Lang said.  \"It's fun to put on, it's fun to talk to  the edgers as they get ready to go and walk them through the whole process.\"

The money raised will help the more than 2200 Special Olympic athletes in the Milwaukee area.  People who geared up for the event were more than happy to play their part.

\"I have a great life, I have a good job, I have good friends and these guys need some extra help,\" Nugent said.  \"If 15 minutes of fear for me can help someone else, great.\"

\"Do it,\" Stahowiak said.  \"Add it to your bucket list and check it off.\"

The Special Olympics raised more than $75,000 through this event alone.  The next rappel opportunity is August 9th at Lambeau Field.  You can find more info here
