Box office hits post-pandemic record numbers as more theaters re-open

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- More theaters are re-opening with two big movies debuting, and the holiday weekend combined for the biggest domestic box office weekend since January of 2020.

David Daniel has the top five estimates for Friday through Sunday.

"Raya and the Last Dragon" spent a 13th straight weekend in the top five, earning $1.9 million dollars.

Jason Statham and "Wrath of Man" fell to fourth place on ticket sales of two-million dollars

After two weekends on top, "Spiral" dropped to third place with $2.3 million dollars.

"Cruella" opened in second place with $21.3 million dollars, Disney's best debut since theaters re-opened, but nowhere near enough for number one.

"A Quiet Place Part Two" made a lot of noise in its first weekend out, $48.4 million dollars, the biggest opening weekend since the pandemic began.
