Bottom Line Update: Sex offender law one step closer to being passed

MILWAUKEE -- A sex offender residency restriction ordinance is one step closer to being passed in Milwaukee. In a Bottom Line Report CBS 58 shed light on the fact that the City of Milwaukee has no sex offender ordinance designating where they can and cannot live. After investigating we found predators living next to schools and parks.

Since our story aired we advocated for that to change and Alderman Tony Zielinski has worked to get an ordinance in place. That ordinance is one step closer to getting passed. Thursday the 2,000 foot rule passed through the hearing and rules committee with a 4 to 3 vote. The council still has to give the final approval on July 22nd. If it passes sex offenders would not be allowed to live within 2,000 feet of day cares, schools, and parks.
