Boater Missing in Dane County is from Milwaukee

Dane County Marine and Trail deputies have been searching Lake Monona for four days for a fisherman who investigators believed launched his boat from Law Park, but never returned.

Investigators believe the boater to be Larnal Friend, age 68 of Milwaukee, WI.

His family has been notified and is in contact with detectives investigating the incident.

If search attempts by boat are not successful today, the Dane County Dive Team will deploy tomorrow morning to assist with the search.  Anyone with information on this incident or on Mr. Friend’s whereabouts is asked to call the Dane County tip line at 608-284-6900.

At about 7:15 am on Friday, October 7th, several citizens called to report an unoccupied boat near the shoreline of Lake Monona, adjacent to John Nolen Drive.  Deputies responded to find the empty 18 foot red fishing boat, which contained indicators that someone had been on board.  Deputies were able to confirm the boat was launched after 6:30 pm on Thursday, October 6th.  The boat does not appear to be damaged and there was no evidence of a collision.
