Bitter temperatures force Milwaukee, Racine & Kenosha schools to close for second day

 Milwaukee Public Schools, Racine Unified Schools, and Kenosha Unified Schools announced schools will be closed on Friday, January 9, 2015. This the second day in a row the school district canceled classes in response to cold temperatures.

The closure means all after-school activities and sports are canceled.

Here is the text of MPS statement announcing the closure:

MPS schools will be closed on Friday, January 9, 2015, Milwaukee Public Schools announced Thursday afternoon.

MPS Central Services locations will remain open and all principals and assistant principals should report to their schools.

Thursday and Friday evening activities, including sports, are canceled. The Milwaukee Board of School Directors meeting of the Committee on Strategic Planning and Budget scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 8 has been postponed due to inclement weather. The meeting has been rescheduled to Thursday, January 15.

The district has reviewed the weather forecast for Friday and determined it is in the best interest of students to close schools that day.

An automated phone message to families will be distributed Thursday evening. The news will also be distributed via the district website, switchboard and social media accounts as well as through traditional news media.
