Big improvements in statewide drought after soggy stretch of weather

The slow moving low pressure system we've been talking about for over a week dropped a ton of rain across southeast Wisconsin over the last two days. Most of the area picked up 1-3" of rain, but a handful of areas picked up over 3.50"!

The 1.68" of rain in Milwaukee since Tuesday has pushed our monthly rain total to 4.40", making September the wettest month we've had so far this year.

The soggy weather over the last week has really helped the drought conditions across the state. The exceptional drought is gone, and the severe drought areas have shrunk considerably. Only a moderate drought remains in parts of SE WI, and this map doesn't include most of the rain we've had over the last 48 hours.

Stubborn low clouds and drizzle continue as of midday Thursday as this slow moving low pulls away.

The drizzle/mist will taper off this afternoon, but clouds will be stubborn through tonight. More breaks in the clouds are expected on Friday, and then we'll have one last taste of summer this weekend into early next week. High pressure takes over, bringing sunshine and 80s back to SE WI through early next week.

There will be shower and storm chances across the northern half of the state this weekend, so we'll keep a close eye on whether or not a couple may drift into southeast Wisconsin. Download the CBS 58 Ready Weather App to see the full forecast.
