Big Dog Ranch Rescue removes last remaining group of beagles from Ridglan Farms
CBS 58 DANE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The last remaining group of Ridglan Farms beagles were removed by Big Dog Ranch Rescue Wednesday, marking the end of the facility's breeding, research, and testing operations.
The rescue says the final group of 155 beagles includes 141 puppies believed to be about 4 months old.
In total, Big Dog Ranch says they've pulled 2,115 dogs from Ridglan Farms, which operated for six decades.
"Today, after 60 years, the facility is finally completely empty, with no dogs remaining," Big Dog Ranch shared in a social media post Wednesday.
They say the newly rescued beagles will be medically evaluated, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered before adoption.
“This agreement represents a historic victory for these beagles and for everyone who believes dogs deserve protection from cruelty,” said Lauree Simmons, founder of Big Dog Ranch Rescue. “Every rescued beagle carries both a heartbreaking past and the promise of a hopeful future. We are grateful that these dogs are now safe, but our work will not be finished until dogs trapped in breeding and testing facilities are protected and these cruel practices come to an end."
