MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Better Business Bureau is warning people about a rise in tax company impostor scams during tax season.
Lisa Schiller from the BBB joined us on Monday, Feb. 2 to talk about some of the scams.
Scammers are posing as tax collection or relief services, claiming victims missed filing deadlines or owe back taxes. They demand immediate payment via gift cards, wire transfers or payment apps.
The IRS does not initiate contact by phone, email or text without first sending a mailed letter, according to BBB.
