Best chance of rain for the next week arrives tonight
Another dry day with filtered sunshine is expected across southeast Wisconsin today, but the sun will be filtered by both wildfire smoke and thin clouds. Winds will turn to the S and SE today, warming highs into the 60s lakeside and low to mid 70s inland.
More clouds move in this evening ahead of a cold front that'll bring a batch of showers and isolated storms through the area overnight. This line of precipitation will be on a weakening trend as it approaches SE WI due to drier air and the loss of daytime heating.
Additional showers will redevelop overnight which is when the most widespread activity will occur.
A few showers will linger in far southeast WI after sunrise as the front pushes through. Otherwise dry weather and breezy NW winds will take over for the second half of the day under a mix of sun and clouds.
Between .10-.25" of rain is expected for a majority of the area with locally higher totals in any storms.
Although we've had several days with precipitation this month, most of the rain has been fairly light. Milwaukee has only had 0.66" of rain in May, which is 1.24" below normal.
This is our only real chance for rain for at least a week as a dry weather pattern takes over. We'll likely have a lake breeze nearly every day for the next week, so plan on warmer temperatures inland. Temps could be pushing the low 80s by the middle of next week.
