MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Bell Ambulance kicked off their EMS Appreciation Week with free meals for their first responders.
Throughout the Milwaukee area, management staff are cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner for EMS and paramedics May 24-26. They also brought some comfort dogs to help the first responders de-stress.
Bell Ambulance says it's important to honor the staff for all their hard work in helping people year-round.
"People need to know when they're in their time of need and they have a medical emergency, and they need someone who is going to come out to them, and that's what we're here for," said Adam Kuhs, Bell Ambulance deputy director of operations.
While the "official" National EMS week is May 15-21, Bell Ambulance adopted the tradition of honoring staff the following week.
The first responders can get free meals through Thursday.
