(CNN)Forget the turducken, that culinary Frankenstein consisting of a deboned chicken stuffed into a deboned duck stuffed into a deboned turkey.
There's a new dish in town to satiate America's appetite for edible items stuffed into other edible items.
The piecaken is a pie baked inside a cake, and it's been making the rounds on food blogs for a moment. You might be familiar with its derivative, the cherpumple, a three-layer cake encased in vanilla frosting featuring cherry, pumpkin and apple pies, each baked into its own cake layer.
The piecaken got a boost this holiday season thanks to talk show hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan, who shared a Thanksgiving-inspired version on their show from the pastry team at New York restaurant David Burke fabrick.
The brainchild of pastry chef Zac Young, this latest iteration features quintessential Thanksgiving flavors: 1/3 apple turnover cake, 1/3 pumpkin pie and 1/3 pecan pie.
In other words, "100% showstopper," the restaurant boasts.
Word of the piecaken inspired the masses to share images on social media of different varieties, though it's unclear whether anyone actually made their own or simply "appropriated" the most grotesque images available on the internet.
Come to think of it, there's no reason it has to supplant the turducken. Just serve it for dessert!
