NEW BERLIN (CBS 58) -- February is when our ticker takes priority.  It's "Heart Health Month." So, the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County is offering a few classes next week to help at its Wellness Center in New Berlin. There will be an overall awareness session on Monday and Tuesday between 10 am and noon followed by a blood pressure screening class between noon and 12:30 pm, showing you the proper way to take and monitor your blood pressure.  The American Heart Association estimates 80 million of us have high blood pressure, and nearly half don't even realize it.

The experts also say you have to watch your salt intake to prevent heart disease.  It's recommended to eat less than 2300 mg a day.  Here are a few healthy snacks with less salt.

Ranch-Chive Popcorn

Granola Bars

And then there's exercising. Get at least 150 minutes per week (2.5 hours) of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes per week of vigorous aerobic activity (or a combination of both), preferably spread throughout the week. Get up and move throughout the day.

The address to the Wellness Center is 3610 Michelle Witmer Memorial Drive.  Click here if you would like to learn more about the Heart Healthy classes being offered or even join the Y of Greater Waukesha County.
