MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau is offering tips for safe and smart shopping this holiday season.
Leaders at the BBB say much of the 2020 holiday gift shopping season will more than likely involve online shopping and therefore, put people at risk of falling victim to purchase scams.
Jim Temmer, President and CEO of the Wisconsin BBB, joined CBS 58 to share tips for safe shopping:
- Research before you buy
- If the deal looks too good to be true, it probably is
- Beware of fake websites: Check the URL, watch for bad grammar, research the age of the domain, search for contact information, and read online reviews
- Make sure the website is secure
- Beware of making quick purchases while scrolling through social media
- Use secure and traceable transactions and payment methods
- Shipment tracking information can be faked
More information can be found on the BBB’s website.
